There are a few different ways to pin a boutonniere but I will be showing you the easiest method. It only requires one to two pins and doesn’t damage the head of the flower. Another benefit of this method is that it hides the pin-head behind your lapel, so the flowers look neater.

1. To start, position the boutonniere on the left lapel of your jacket, so the flower is facing up. Then hold it in place before pinning.

2. Lift the lapel up so the underneath side is visible. Using your free hand, poke the pin through the back of the lapel and through the boutonniere stem.

 3. Once the pin is pushed through the boutonniere stem, continue pushing the pin gently through your lapel. This will secure the boutonniere in place, with the back of the lapel looking like this.

4. Sometimes if your boutonniere is heavier, you may need to use two pins to keep it in place. When you have used two pins, the back of the lapel will look like this.

5. Now put your lapel back down and check that your boutonniere is secure and angled to match the lapel. Congratulations, you now know how to pin a boutonniere!
